Profs. Dal Negro and Reinhard's Research Featured in Nature Photonics

A recent finding stemming from nanostructure research conducted by CNN Prof. Luca Dal Negro and Bjoern Reinhard was published in the September 2008 issue of scientific journal Nature Photonics. Using electron-beam lithography techniques on a quartz substrate, the BU researchers determined that two-dimensional arrays of gold nanoparticles arranged in aperiodic mathematical sequences can produce broad plasmonic resonances that span the visible spectrum. According to the team, such structures could be used for broadband plasmonic devices, including improved substrates for surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), biosensors or structures for enhancing the light extraction from LEDs.
